The Skylark Group identified the need to create a family friendly event that the whole community can get involved in during the Mardi Gras Festival Season.
Created & produced by The Skylark Group, Rainbow Run, Australia’s first ever fun-run for Marriage Equality kicked of the 2014 Mardi Gras Season.
The event was open to anyone that wanted to support the legislation of Marriage Equality in Australia, with all profits from the event going directly to the NSW Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby.
On Saturday February 8th, we took over the beautiful Sydney Park in St Peters to host the inaugural event. The Skylark Group created a course that was competitive for the serious runners, but also manageable for the many mums & bubs.
The 6km course was themed & styled by The Skylark Group with all things rainbow, and all runners were designated a specific color wear proudly. The color allocation was arranged through the ticketing system managed by The Skylark Group.
Runners were motivated by uplifting beats from prominent Sydney DJ, Sveta with her set broadcasted live all around the course.
To bring even more color to the event, The Skylark Group organized for 6 well known Sydney Drag Queens to placed along the track, surprising unsuspecting runners & cooling them of with water guns.
The Skylark Group was responsible for the event management, production, logistics, ticketing, advertising & marketing plan, & sponsorship negotiations.
- Over 300 participants in the inaugural event
- Over $7000 was raised & donated to the NSW Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby
- Nominated or Best Community Event Mardi Gras 2014 Awards
- Rainbow Run was promoted & covered by SameSame, DIY Rainbows, LOTL, SSO, OX Live & SSX. All of the coverage was negotiated by The Skylark Group, free of charge.
